Journal Seven Cam Anello

So far in the book, Callings by Dave Isay, The profile that has stuck out to me the most so far is the Aeromedical Field Tester Alton Yates. This profile has stuck out to me most so far because of how Alton goes to join the Air Force help out his father and his six other siblings. It is very hard to see someone in your family struggle, especially after a loss in the family. In this profile, Altons mother has passed away which has left his father to take care of seven children and work his job and his side job. This caused Alton to go out after graduating high school to join the Air Force to work in the Aeromedical Field Labratory and send his checks to his family to help them. A direct quote from this profile that stood out to me was at the end of the profile when Altons says, "Even to this day, everytime thre is a liftoff I think a little piece of me lifts off with each one of those missions."

In this profile, I had taken a lot from it and made sure to look up all that stood out to me. A vocab word that I knew nothing about was the word centrifuge. This is said when Alton explains what happens when you would blackout when testing devices that had different stresses on the human body. The word means, A machine with a rapid rotating container that applies centrifugal force to its content. Duirng my active reading, I wanted to look up the Aeromedical Field Labratory and when I did, it listed that it tested aerospace medicine, portable equipment, space biology, animals, and more. The thing that stood out to me in this was the animals that tested things so my research question was, What type of animals are testing? I soon found out that it was monkeys that tested things in the lab.

Tests in The Aeromedical Field Labratory

Currently I don't know what I want to do with my life but I have been leaning towards Animal Science lately. One thing that I want most out of my future career is to absolutley enjoy what I am doing. I know that every job will have its downs but I want to be working someplace where I am enjoying it to the most so that I am not miserable for the rest of my life. Another thing I want out of my future job is to have many opportunities around. What I mean by this is that once I would graduate I would want there to be a few places where I could apply instead of a short variety. This is because sometimes there aren’t a lot of job opportunities in certain fields when some graduates and I don’t want that for me.

  1. I like your thinking bro, I also want to do something in my career which I will love and not be miserable even when it has some downs. Also, I want to do something where there will be lots of opportunities. this is really good!

  2. The Aeromedical Field Tester chapter stood out to me too. I am in the same boat when it comes to not knowing what I want to do with my life. Finding a major and career path is difficult. Good luck.
