Journal 6 - Brooke
The food in Sierra Leone includes a lot of rice and vegetables. Their food usually includes spices as well. Also, while looking through pictures of some of their meals, there is not a lot of color, besides brown. The Jollof Rice is fried rice with beans and a spicy onion sauce. Fufu is also popular, although originally from Ghana, is a mix of yams, cassava roots or corn with sauce. Their Groundnut Stew is made from meat, tomatoes, onions, and peanuts, and served alongside their Fufu dish. As discussed in class, meat is not a regular part of their meal, which is why they are focused on bringing in vegetables. They have a very spicy soup called Pepper Soup and it includes hot chili peppers, tomato paste and fried onions or garlic. This meal can be served with fish or meat on occasion. A dish called Krin Krin and Fish Balls is traditional and is normally served in Freetown around the docks and beaches where they run a direct distribution of fish from the fisherman to the consumer, without going through a processor or retailer.

Your research in the food color and not eating meat often is very interesting. There diet is much different than ours. We normally eat a lot of meat in the United States along with many colors of food such as fast food and junk food. We don't eat as healthy as Sierra Leone.
ReplyDeleteI think what stood out to me the most is when you said about how the dishes don't really have colors they are basically just browns.
