The Hobart Shakespearians was very heart touching and inspiring documentary film. How a fifth-grade teacher takes full responsibility for his students. He goes out of his way to make sure that he is maximizing the learning. Through my middle and high school career, I have not seen any teacher who is as dedicated as Mr. Rafe. Or I have not seen any students who work as hard as the students in The Hobart Elementary school. These students are not well off as the documentary stated that some of the kids only get Christmas gifts from the teacher that is it. Also, these kids have seen many things like crimes, violence, drugs and many more things which are not normal for a fifth grader to see or have any knowledge of these things. At end of the film, it made me think that why can all the teachers be like Mr. Rafe. For example, He had a very simple mission statement "be nice and work hard". As the year passes through the students have achieved his mission by becoming a strong nice human being. In middle and high school all of my teachers had a mission for their class. Every year on the first day of the class they will introduce us the mission statement, but after the first week of school the mission statement gets lost and the teacher cannot find him till the first day of next school year. Compared to Mr. Rafe's mission statement every day finds his way to Mr. Rafe's classroom since he has gotten a very clear path. If teacher keep their mission simple and something achievable the class will go very productively and the students will enjoy coming to that class.
My goal for next year is to finish the project I'm working on currently. This project needs lots of productive hours. Right now I'm not putting enough hours and I'm not focusing right. If I keep doing what I'm doing now I will not be able to finish the project ever. So, to finish the project I need to stop wasting time on random ideas which are not related to my mission or end goal. I need to focus on the main idea and end goal and keep moving forward. Also, I need to stop my part-time job because that drains a lot of my hours. So, to reach my goal by next year I need to sacrifice my part-time job.
I agree entirely with how you feel about the Hobart Shakespearians. Its such a great thing for these kids to have such a dedicated teacher whos willing to do some much for them. Its a shame that as a result the teachers around Rafe resent him though.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with how can’t all teachers be like Mr. Rafe but caring teachers like him will always stand out. I really like the quote you wrote down and I didn’t have it down but after reading this I have put it down. Your goal is very inspiring and I know you will achieve it. I’m intrigued to see what you working on man!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about wondering why not every teacher is like Rafe. I’ve had many good teachers, and many bad teachers, but the teachers who care always stand out. I don’t know what the project is that you’re working on, but I’m confident that you will achieve your goals, as you’ve already made a plan. Good luck.
