The Sierra Leone Civil War began on 23 of March in 1991 , the Revolutionary United Front was founded by Foday Sankoh, Abu Kanu, and Rashid Mansaray along with the support from the special forces of Charles Taylor’s National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL), they intervened in Sierra Leone in an attempt to overthrow the Joseph Momoh government. Taylor funded the rebels and provided troops, during the first year Foday killed the other two founders and became the leader. People were prey, they used fear to gain power. In Freetown 1995 the rebels (RUF) of Sierra Leone is forcing children to join its ranks and engage in combat, rebel recruits would drug children and force them to serve on the front lines.  The rights group has documented abductions of children as recently as early May.  https://www.hrw.org/news/2000/05/31/sierra-leone-rebels-forcefully-recruit-child-soldiers
