Journal Two - Gabriel Pullen

My name is Gabriel Pullen, but most people call me "Gabe". A fun fact about me: I was in band for 7 years, and show choir for 3. I am from Marysville, Ohio where I lived and went to school most of my life. I recently moved into the Annex just across the street from campus. I am 18, I am a freshman, and I have not figured out my major yet. Some of my hobbies include: playing board games/video games with my roommates, watches, listening to new music, and soon I will be playing for the Annex soccer team.

So far The House On Mango Street, if you don’t include the introduction, not much has happened. However, I think the theme that stood out to me the most would be family. Almost all of the first 11 pages has to do with family. Esperanza describes what it’s like for her to live with her family, and her hopes of becoming more of an independent person. I think this theme is common amongst kids and teenagers that can’t wait to grow up. For a lot of them, living with family is all they know, so they want to grow up and experience life as an independent.
